The Story Behind the Quiz

How It All Started

It began the way most good ideas do — with a late-night conversation and a whiteboard covered in crossed-out city names. My friend couldn't decide between staying in Denver or moving to Austin. Smart, driven, genuinely torn. We'd been debating for hours, and at some point I said, "You know what you need? A zodiac personality test for cities."

We laughed about it. But the idea stuck. I started researching how personality types might align with different environments — not just weather and cost of living, but culture, energy, pace, and the kind of people you'd run into at a coffee shop on a Tuesday morning.

What began as a weekend project to help a friend eventually turned into this quiz. The goal was never to be scientifically rigorous. It was to create something fun — a new lens for thinking about where you might want to live, visit, or at least spend a long weekend exploring.

The Logic Behind the Match

The quiz combines your zodiac sign with 18 lifestyle questions across six dimensions: pace of life, outdoor access, career ambition, nightlife, budget, and social values. Each city in our database has scores in these same dimensions, based on real data about cost of living, climate, industry strength, and cultural character.

Your zodiac sign sets a baseline personality profile. Your quiz answers then weight those dimensions based on what matters most to you. The algorithm looks for cities whose character scores align with your weighted preferences — simple in concept, but it produces results that feel surprisingly personal.

We update city data periodically as climates shift and neighborhoods change. A city that matched well two years ago might rank differently today, and that's worth knowing.

Why Zodiac Signs?

Zodiac signs are a framework — not a science, but a language. Millions of people around the world recognize themselves in their sign's general description, even if they take it with a grain of salt. We use zodiac compatibility principles as a fun and accessible way to think about personality types and what environments tend to bring out the best in each type.

Each sign has distinct characteristics that naturally gravitate toward certain kinds of places — cities with energy, cities with calm, cities that reward ambition, cities that reward exploration. We mapped these preferences to real American cities, creating a bridge between astrological tradition and practical city data.

What You Get

A Note on Results

This quiz is built for entertainment and inspiration. It's not designed to guide major life decisions like whether to relocate for a job or break a lease. Think of it as a conversation starter — something to consider alongside your own research, your budget, and what you've learned about yourself through experience.

If nothing else, we hope it introduces you to a city you hadn't thought about, or gives you a fresh way to think about the one you already love.
